Whether you have dry hair or not, a leave-in treatment or conditioner is a must, but especially for those with dry hair. You might be wondering, why do I need a leave-in conditioner if I condition in the shower? Great question! Conditioner in the shower isn't a treatment and doesn't keep your hair hydrated and soft throughout the day, but a leave-in conditioner will. What is a leave-in treatment?
Leave-in treatments are products applied to the hair every day or after every time you wash your hair. Leave-in treatments have many benefits including detangling hair, protecting from heat damage, nourishes, hydrates, strengthens, and protects the hair! So if you aren't using a leave-in treatment, you're missing out on all these benefits!
They come in a few different forms, some are oils, some are a very liquid/water-like consistency, and others are more of cream consistency. Here are the benefits of each kind:
Oil Leave-In Treatment:
Helps to tame frizz as well as add shine and hydration to dry ends. Leave-in oils are typically applied to the ends of the hair to avoid adding oil to the scalp.
Lightweight/Liquid:
Lightweight, liquid conditioners are best for those with fine hair and don't want to weigh down the hair with added products. A lightweight leave-in conditioner will hydrate, nourish and soften dry hair. Since it is lightweight, it can be applied all over the head, usually on wet hair.
Cream Leave-In Conditioner:
A cream leave-in is going to be best for those hair types that are thick and/or perhaps curly. The more hair you have, the more product you need, so using a cream leave-in treatment is going to be the best option in order to nourish the whole head of hair. Cream leave-in treatments are wonderful at protecting the hair as well as giving dry ends some much-needed hydration.

Finally! A leave-in conditioner that protects colored hair! All of the leave-in conditioners and treatments that have been mentioned do a great job at detangling and overall nourishing the hair. But, not all of them protect your colored hair from fading.
