Don't know what skin serums are for you? Keep reading and you'll find which is right for you!
SKIN SERUMS:
RETINOL
Retinol has wonderful Anti-Aging properties are obviously wonderful for those who are already noticing signs of aging and wrinkles, but it is also a great way for younger individuals to slow the process down of skin aging. These serums not only assist with wrinkles and fine lines but can also make the skin seem firmer and younger.
The main type of serum that is used for anti-aging is retinol which comes from Vitamin A. “It helps with cell turnover, increasing collagen and elastin production, preventing collagen loss, firming, and hydrating or plumping the skin” (SkinSerums.com).
The best way to apply retinol is at night. Certain serums that are a bit stronger can be affected by UV rays during the day so it is important that are applied at night.
VITAMIN A & C
If you are looking to brighten up your skin and bring some life back into it, a Vitamin A & C serum might be just the thing that takes your skin from dull to bright. These types of serums tend to be very popular and get the best reviews because they can give you notice differences immediately.
But how do these skin serums really brighten your skin? What does that really mean? These serums contain ingredients like Vitamin E and Vitamin C that give your skin a natural glow while also evening out your skin tone.
These are great serums for anyone looking for an extra boost or giving extra love to their skin.
AHAs & BHAs
Even if you aren’t acne-prone, these serums are great for those with irritated skin. If you have sensitive skin but want to help with redness and irritation, I suggest starting out with a smaller percentage of AHA or BHA, it will be much gentler.
These serums are also wonderful exfoliators. As I mentioned earlier, if you have textured skin, this is a great way to aid that texture without using an exfoliating cleanser. Some exfoliating cleansers can be abrasive to the skin, so an AHA or BHA serum is going to be much gentler. If you are wondering if you should choose an AHA or BHA, The Healthline states, "neither type of hydroxy acid is “better” than the other. Both are highly effective methods of deep exfoliation". However, AHAs tend to be better for scarring and wrinkles whereas BHA may better benefit acne-prone skin and sun-damaged skin.

HYALURONIC ACID & GLYCERIN
Now, everyone who has been thinking, “I just need some moisture and hydration!”, these serums are wanted you want to look for. Hyaluronic acid is going to be a bit different from the acids listed previously (AHA & BHA), they provide hydration instead of exfoliating.
Sometimes those with dry skin, like myself, try to lather on the moisturizer and still feel that it isn’t enough. Using Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin or a hydrating serum is what your skin is craving. It is great to pair with your moisturizer because the serum will do a better job at penetrating the skin than your daily moisturizer would.
CERAMIDES & ANTIOXIDANTS
The last common types of serums are ones that contain ceramides and antioxidants. These types of serums are used to repair the skin. If you have acne scars leftover from acne in the past, have sun damage, or are just trying to help fade wrinkles, it is important that you keep these types of serums in mind!
Serums cannot turn back the clock and change what has happened to your skin, but they can help fade and renew the skin.
These ingredients/serums I feel are wonderful for all types of skin because all of us have some sort of damage or scarring to our skin whether that is from picking at pimples, tanning in the sun, scars from acne, or wrinkles, these can all benefit from ceramides and antioxidants.
So, yes, there are so many different ingredients and types of serums out there, but each ingredient has a different use and your skin will love and appreciate ingredients given to them that it needs.
